Far Hills, NJ | Full-Time | $26 – $28/hr. + Performance Bonuses

Are you looking for more than just a job? We’re hiring a senior-level technician to take ownership of a Plant Health Care (PHC) and lawn route, someone who knows how to diagnose, treat, document, and communicate with precision.

Join The Todd Group Inc. and Peters–Todd’s Inc., two established, quality-driven landscape organizations serving high-end properties across Northern New Jersey. If you take pride in doing things the right way, by the label, by the book, and with craftsmanship, this role is for you.

Role Summary

As our Senior PHC & Lawn Care Technician, you’ll run a route with high autonomy and high standards. You will diagnose plant and turf issues, execute treatments safely and effectively, maintain top-tier records, and serve as a trusted advisor to our clients by explaining findings and recommending next steps.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and manage a PHC + turf route: maintain efficiency, and deliver consistent quality.
  • Diagnose and treat tree, shrub, and turf issues using an IPM mindset (identify pests/disease/stressors, prescribe targeted solutions).
  • Perform lawn care applications: fertilization, weed control, insect control, and seasonal treatments.
  • Perform plant health care treatments: foliar sprays, trunk injections, soil amendments, and root-zone work.
  • Perform mosquito and tick control applications (as assigned).
  • Conduct air spading, sampling, and other root-zone diagnostics/repair work (as assigned).
  • Mix/load/apply products strictly according to label directions and applicable NJ regulations; maintain clean, compliant practices.
  • Calibrate and operate application equipment (sprayers, spreaders, injectors, etc.) to ensure accurate rates and results.
  • Maintain accurate digital records and reporting: treatments performed, observations, recommendations, and follow-ups.
  • Communicate clearly with clients: what you found, what you did, and what you recommend next—professional, calm, and confident.
  • Recommend additional services when appropriate (not pushy—based on site needs and best practices).
  • You’ll operate with strong autonomy while working as part of a two-tech PHC/lawn team. We currently have a junior technician on staff, and we’ll split applications based on timing, property size, and application windows, teaming up on larger properties or during tight treatment periods. You’ll serve as the senior lead and resource for quality, planning, and client communication.
  • Perform routine truck/equipment maintenance; keep inventory organized; maintain safe and clean pesticide storage areas.
  • Support team development by sharing best practices and (as needed) mentoring newer technicians.

How We’re Structured

  • Our PHC/Lawn Department Manager is the primary, forward-facing point of contact for clients and oversees program management, scheduling, and inventory.
  • As the Senior Technician, your focus is high-level field execution: diagnostics, treatment quality, documentation, and jobsite leadership. You’ll communicate professionally on-site as needed, then relay findings, notes, and recommendations back to the Department Manager for client follow-up.
  • We also have a junior technician on staff; during tight application windows or larger properties, we split work and team up as needed. You’ll serve as the senior lead for quality, pace, and coaching

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years experience in PHC and/or lawn application work (senior-level route responsibility strongly preferred).
  • Strong plant, tree, and pest identification skills (trees/shrubs + turf).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather/seasonal conditions and performing physical work.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong safety-first mindset and a commitment to compliance.
  • Professional communication skills—able to represent the company well on high-end properties.

Licensing & Certifications

  • NJ Pesticide Applicator License preferred (Core plus relevant categories such as 3A, 3B, 8B).
  • If not currently licensed: willingness to obtain required licensing quickly (company support provided).
  • Horticulture, arboriculture, turf, or related education is a plus; ISA credentials are a bonus.

Work Schedule & Physical Requirements

  • Full-time, year-round role; seasonal overtime may be required during peak periods.
  • Ability to lift/carry typical field materials and equipment; frequent standing, walking, bending, and working on uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to safely operate and maintain application equipment and company vehicles.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $26–$28/hr based on experience and capability, plus performance bonuses.
  • Overtime opportunities.
  • Health and dental insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick days.
  • Annual education and certification allowance; membership in professional industry organizations.
  • Supportive team culture and long-term growth opportunities.
